Groceries is one of the largest bills many people struggle with
Groceries continue to increase but appetites don’t decrease. Every time you see suggestions about keeping grocery costs downs it always seems to be about coupons, price matching, etc. All of that is great but what do you do with the stuff when you bring it all home??
Hamburger & Soup ………… you may be surprised what you can do with those 2 items!
- Soup often you can get for $0.59 (2 cream of mushroom & 2 tomato) = $2.36
- Large package of Lean Ground Beef (You can use ground chicken or ground turkey) = $7.26
- Large package on No Yolks (Egg Noodles) $2.50 (I did get mine on sale this week with a $0.75 coupon but even at $2.50 that’s not bad)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- Spices – optional
- Fresh Mushrooms or Onions (optional upon tastes)
- 1/2 Cup Sour cream
When we have a main course we always have a salad, bread or raw veggies with it. These act as additional fillers and help you hit all the food groups. The kids enjoy the raw veggies and it helps them feel as though their likes are included 🙂 We are feeding 2 adults, 1 teenager and 1 toddler! This will be enough for 4 meals!
On the Left is Beef Stroganoff & On the Right Sauce for Macaroni 🙂
I divide the hamburger into to pans, add any mushrooms, onions or spices.
Once both pans of hamburger are cooked.
For Stroganoff add 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup to the cooked hamburger and allow to simmer 🙂 Cook 1/2 bag of Egg Noodles, Strain, Mix Stroganoff Mix & add 1/2 cup of Sour Cream 🙂 We had Garden Salad tonight with ours !
For the Macaroni sauce, add 2 cans tomato soup, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white vinegar. Let simmer. (You’ll be surprised how yummy it is)
With the Macaroni Sauce you have various options; You can divide the sauce in 2 and put in freezer. We opted for 1/2 in the freezer and Tuesday night we are going to use the other 1/2 package of Egg Noodle with this sauce and a nice Caesar Salad.
You can see there is plenty of Strognoff for another meal 🙂
Adding simple things such as the bread, veggies, salad, etc can make your groceries go a bit more!
Even adding these extras that a total of $20 / 4 Meals is $5 PER meal to feed 4 or $1.25 per person per meal ! That’s cheaper than a coffee!
Do you have any little tricks or tips with soup?
